GSAFE increases the capacity of LGBTQ+ students, educators, and families to create schools in Wisconsin where all youth thrive. We do this by:
- Developing the leadership of LGBTQ+ students,
- Supporting Gender & Sexuality Alliances,
- Training educational staff,
- Advancing educational justice,
- Advocating for public policy, and
- Deepening racial, gender, trans, and social justice.
Teens Like Us is a social group for youth ages 14-19. We meet every Tuesday at Briarpatch Youth Services from 5-7pm. Food is provided for all the youth that attend, and we can pick up and drop off if rides are needed. Every week we plan an event or learning opportunity that is unlike any other group in Madison!
This is the website home of the Madison Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). PFLAG is both a support and advocacy group dedicated to making life better for LGBTQ+ people and their families and friends. All meetings are held on the third Sunday of the month.
This website is dedicated to creating a health promoting environment and reducing health inequities for LGBTQ+ persons. It includes up-to-date information on health disparities as well as health resources in Wisconsin. There are specific sections relating to youth, education, and specific resources for transgender information.
The Family Acceptance Project (FAP) focuses on helping ethnically diverse families decrease the risks and promote the well-being of their LGBTQ+ children. The first phase of this project has made available a wonderful video, Always My Son, telling the story of one Latino family’s journey to support their gay son.
Founded in 1980, the Human Rights Campaign advocates on behalf of LGBTQ+ Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBTQ+ issues.
Welcoming Schools is a national program being used in MMSD to create more respectful and supportive schools for all students, staff and families. Professional development, lesson, books and inclusive language is provided around:
- Embracing Family Diversity
- Creating LGBTQ+ and Gender-Inclusive Schools
- Preventing Bias-Based Bullying
- Supporting Transgender and Non-Binary Students
GSA Network is a next-generation LGBTQ+ racial and gender justice organization that empowers and trains queer, trans and allied youth leaders to advocate, organize, and mobilize an intersectional movement for safer schools and healthier communities.
The Make It Better Project gives youth the tools they need to make their schools better now! The Make it Better Project YouTube channel, presents youth and adults working together to make schools safer for LGBTQ+ youth.
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. This site provides many resources.
This site addresses cyber bullying. StopBullying.gov provides information from various government agencies on how kids, teens, young adults, parents, educators and others in the community can prevent or stop bullying.
The Trevor Project is determined to end suicide among LGBTQ+ youth by providing life-saving and life-affirming resources including our nationwide, 24/7 crisis intervention lifeline, digital community and advocacy/educational programs that create a safe, supportive and positive environment for everyone.
